The Parenting Teenagers Course

Five sessions at St Joseph’s Catholic College,

Feb-March 2012

Would you like some down-to-earth and sensitive help on how to build a great relationship with your teenager? Help is at hand!

In partnership with St Joseph’s Catholic College, the Swindon Catholic Deanery is offering a new course designed to explore issues around parenting teenagers.

Who is it for?

Parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of children aged 11 – 18 years are all welcome to come as individuals or as couples.  It is also open to  those with younger children who wish to prepare for the teenage years.

Child-care will be provided free on site at St Joseph's College for those who need it.

The course, while based on Christian principles, is relevant and helpful for any parent with or without a Christian faith or church background.

Where will it be, and who is running it?

The Course will be held in the main hall of St Joseph’s Catholic College, Ocotal Way, Swindon, SN3 3LR.

It will be offered by a team of Catholic couples from Swindon, many of whom have been running the Deanery Marriage Course in recent years, together with key St Joseph’s staff.

Curious?

Here’s a link to a 3 minute video that introduces the course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxQVepD_xnc

The course has been running very successfully at Holy Trinity Brompton for the last eight years, and was released for general use late last year.  More details are available on the Relationship Central website under Parenting Teenagers.

Topics and Dates:

There will be five sessions each starting at 7:30, though doors will open at 7:00pm. We should finish by 9:30pm.  The topics and dates are:

 Building strong foundations Feb 27th
Meeting our children's needs March 5th
 Setting boundaries March 12th
 Teaching healthy relationships March 19th
Our long term aim March 26th

What can you expect?

Each evening will be in two parts :

  •       Everyone will watch a DVD that shows teenagers and their parents together. There are comments from experts in the field.  The DVDs feature Nicky and Sila Lee, who have worked with couples and families for over 20 years and speak regularly on parenting.

  •       After the DVD, you will be able to talk with each other in a relaxed environment. You will be in groups of 8 to 10 parents who have teenagers of approximately the same age. We are sure you will find others facing the same issues.

Tea & coffee will be provided after the DVD.

There is no charge for the course – donations will be accepted with pleasure.
