The Marriage
Course has been running annually in the Swindon Catholic Deanery since
2006. In 2011 the course ran from February to April, but in 2012 we have
decided to run a course on
Parenting Teenagers instead in the first part of the year.
Below you can
find information about the Marriage Course, what couples think about it,
photos, etc.
If you'd like
to register your interest for a possible 2012 course that could take place
later in the year, please use our
online form. When we
receive interest from six or seven couples we shall run the Marriage Course
again.
THE COURSE
The
Marriage Course takes eight evenings, the last of which is a party. Each
evening starts with a brief introduction from a Swindon couple who've taken
the course before, followed by the screening of a DVD with two or more
breaks to allow the couples attending to have private discussions. There
is no group discussion at all. Wine, beer, coffee, tea, chocolates and biscuits are served. The evening
starts at 7:15 for 7:30pm,
and runs until about 9:45pm.
The
Marriage Course was devised by the Anglican Church at
Holy Trinity Brompton,
the church that started the Alpha Course. It has been running since
1996 across the U.K. and internationally, with great success. 40
couples have taken the course in the Swindon Catholic Deanery, and feedback
has been extremely positive. A team of eight of these couples
delivered the course in
2011.
The Marriage
Course is based on Christian principles and practice, but is nevertheless
very respectful of, and helpful to, couples in which only one of the
partners is a Christian.
More
details are available on the Relationship Central
website under
The Marriage
Course.
To cover expenses, we
provide the opportunity for couples to make a small donation each
session. In
fact each course so far has generated enough money to pay all the expenses
for the
course that has followed.
